Comment

Unlike EC 2.4.2.3, uridine phosphorylase, and EC 2.4.2.4, thymidine phosphorylase, this enzyme can accept both the ribonucleosides uridine and cytidine and the 2′-deoxyribonucleosides 2′-deoxyuridine and thymidine [3,6]. The reaction is reversible, and the enzyme does not distinguish between α-D-ribose 1-phosphate and 2-deoxy-α-D-ribose 1-phosphate in the synthetic direction.
